He removed his scythe from the chest cavity of a Horror and smirked at the corpse as it turned to little more than a black spot on the pavement. Horrors were something he'd almost felt pity for. After all they were quite similar to him. Why, he practically considered them family.
Vostal's laughter rang and he dug through his pockets for a lighter while using a free hand to pop a crooked cigarette into his mouth. He'd grown up in Nomida. Before the barrier was set. Before the crest had developed overnight on the earth sprouting a random garden seemingly from thin air in a matter of hours. Before Euphoria had come to his life and he to her rescue. Nomida had once been a flourishing district for marketing and arts. Not that he was pained to see his previous home in rubble and overrun with outlandish beasts that dripped darkness and stumbled about on all fours or even on occasion upright like the resurrected corpses of the fallen. Then again, there was not much that Vostal Black gave remorse to.
He lit up and plucked the drug from his mouth, exhaling its sweet chaos with a grin. Rolling his eyes down to look at the mess left at his feet, he chuckled and took another drag from the cigarette.
"Do you know what Euphoric are?" he laughed at the stain that had once been a less than credible opponent. Looking up out over the city and watching the living shadows shift slowly away from him after his display he picked Grimm up from where he'd left it to lean against his shoulder during his hunt for a lighter. "I guess you probably do, huh?" He smirked down at the stain and dropped his spent cigarette on it, grinding it out with his heel. "Too bad, yeah?"
Vostal slung Grimm across his shoulder keeping the blade's curve towards his head and stalked off towards the city.

"...They're so pretty, it's a shame to know the truth."

After finally escaping Sara for a short time Ill had wandered all the way out to Nomida where he knew she was unlikely to follow. It was just his luck that he happened across a slaughter mid brigade and even worse fate to find that the reaper in question was none other than Vostal. They had made acquaintance. Now he was eager to escape unnoticed.

Back to the onlooker he'd been aware of all along he smirked lazily and reached up to scratch his head.
"Where ya goin', runt?" he chuckled finally glancing over his shoulder just a little ways to the right near a crumbling wall that had until then disguised the presence of an old "friend". Smile turning to leer Vostal fully faced his visitor and made a gesture to show no harm to the fallen angel. "Haven't seen you in a week and you find me here only to turn tail without even a greeting?" he puckered his lips in a pouting fashion and sank into a crouch, too lazy to stand upright. "That's just rude."

Making his choice quite clear, Ill dropped to his knees and pushed his hands against the stubly grit of the ground displaying a talent he alone possessed.
Before him the earth split in an intricate seal that seemed to sear through all that it encountered until it lay between them, a perfect glyph for his purposes. not daring to rise to his feet as his element swarmed and thickened the air, the Euphoric screwed his eyes shut and thought only of her.

Just in range of sight the mage say, watching the display before her like one watching the brilliant plot of a movie unfold upon the theater screen. "intriguing" she did enjoy the display, it had been so long since she had satisfied her taste for violence, and considering she was still unsure what she could do in this realm, it seemed all too obvious that the best way to quell the hunger was to sit back and watch the lesser beings of the world duel for her ammusement.

"something feels...." Noticing the creature at the edge of her field of vision she stopped, wondering what the memories flooding her consciousness were. How did he know this new man this..... euphoric? was that the word she searched for? could he be the creature he sought to save euphoria? cursing under her breath she set a confident grip on the handle of her weapon, the realization of her plight flowing through her being like water from a tap.

"if he's who im looking for....i suppose i wont be able to let him die."

The thing that materialized between them was...
Slowly rising to his feet as an impossibly powerful gust of air bit at his face he ran his fingers back through his thick, black mane and sucked his teeth. "Fuck."
It was one of those then. He stepped back casually and removed Grimm from its perch on his shoulder with an uneasy look hanging on his face. He'd played this game once before. Luckily it seemed that the beast summoned this time was not the black armored titan that had all but killed him upon their last encounter.
"It's never easy with you is it?" he murmured unhooking the spiraled chain that snaked down Grimm's length in thick coils. Too bad. He didn't like to fight. But necessity was necessity.
He rushed into battle like a fool sought women, throwing his weight forward and his weapon out much the way one would cast a 70lb fishing line. At his back Grimm whistled with momentum and hummed as it slung its massive crescent towards his target. Ears keen to the sound of the blade's deadly approach, Vostal stopped mid stride and puttered his head forward as the scythe flew over his head with numbing force. He straightened with almost drunken ease and leisure and watched the chain holding the blade and shaft of his weapon together whiz through the air towards the Euphoric, bypassing the minor inconvenience in the way. At the last minute he flicked his wrist back, snagging the chain and adding a ferocious curl to the blade's flight path directing his aim at the last second to his opponent's only means of escape, an unguarded leg (9)

He'd forgotten the strength and skill of his opponent and paid miserably for his mis-caution. The agony that spiraled uncontrollably from the clean slice inflicted upon a limb he hadn't been expecting to receive the first blow was almost crippling. Dropping all too soon, Ill was truly nothing without Sara to aid him. But...this man!
"Aren't you Laruae?!" One like Sara! why would he attack me?
He couldn't spare a moment to wait for a response and turned to his only weapon for defense. The creature's name came to mind and reaching for her, he conveyed his Fury (5) and sent her forward as his shield calling upon her magic.
Obliging the demands of her summoner the beast's display was immaculate. Dancing forward in a series of tightly looped spins and flips so much like the element she personified, the Jjin's very movement materialized blades of her element to slash destructively at the human daring to impose upon her caller. (4,4,4)

Not for the first time was he reminded of just exactly why he hated summoned beasts. Elegant as the blasted things were, they moved too fast and had unlimited, "kick-your-ass" resource. Like the woman dancing her way to him with murderous intent. He snapped Grimm's blade back to him in time to cut through one of the several spells thrown to him. His silent companion consumed magic like it was going out of style and this time was no different. It was that stray flare of wind that caught him across the chest unexpectedly that ticked him off.
He stopped to pluck his slashed shirt up to eye level with an incredulous blanch.
...that had been...
"Real expensive," Vostal muttered almost lost in his own thoughts.
Time seemed to slow.
The gentle tick of his heart in his ear murmured to his senses like a melodramatic serenade of wearing patience. Just what...was he going to do about this?

A dangerous leer snapped across his face with the darkened look in his eyes filling the once jolly atomosphere of his morbidly humorous ego. Knocking Grimm on the ground, blade down, he closed his eyes with a sardonic huff of laughter and bit down so hard his teeth clicked audiably.
Let's play a game.
Suddenly remarkably light in his hands, he twirled Grimm about like a baton, kicking up bits of earth and ash from the ground. It wasn't apparent at first what he was doing.
The pace quickened.
Bit by bit he loosed more and more slack in the chain with his smile growing ever broader. One hit was equal to...
He stomped his dominate foot forward and releasing a lunatic glae of laughter spun Grim straight out of his hands. Over his head the blade spun and counter balanced landing deadly end first into his awaiting hands. He paid no mind at all to the blood he shed to complete his actions and slung the throned shaft of the Damia at the summon's slender throat with every intent to slice it into little bits (6). leaving no time for recreation he jerked the chain-extended rod back to him and in a slight of hand nearly remarkable to his un-extraordinary race traded the base for the blade, spinning around to recirculate momentum and relaunch a combo attack this time shooting to Ill. (3) No waiting for the hit to complete itself, Vostal snatched a handful of the slack in the extension and threw the full of his weight forward dragging the blade toward him while securing a firm, metal-toed boot to the face of the bitch who'd just ruined his clothing. (7, 8 )

Seeing the summon fight her mind was filled with possibilities, all of which he threw out at the realization that she didn't have the skills to survive in combat against these forces. "if i just had my.....wait." Studying the fight patterns she allowed realization to flow through her being, the options pouring back through her with every waking second. The creature is fighting...this is my chance to talk to him.

In an instant she covered the distance, lowering her energy level and quelling the pulsing of her magic to hide her entrance into the battle field. She stopped mere inches from the euphoric, speaking in a low whisper to ensure only he could hear her, bypassing any awkward instances where she might be interrupted. "angel of this world...... do you know of the creature named euphoria?"

He was bewildered at first and made a point to jump away from the woman who had suddenly come to him. at her appearance Ill found himself wishing very much that he'd been smart enough to stay at Sara's side. And yet...
"--oria?"
He blinked. This woman knew...his sister's name?

Before them the battle raged and it wasn't until the deafening screech of his failed summons alerted him to his ally's demise at the hands of what had proven to be a far stronger opponent that Ill looked up. His notice nearly came much too late.
Eyes wide the Euphoric grabbed the stupid woman who'd come at a terrible time and himself from the immediate path of the scythe head that had clearly meant to rip his heart from his chest. Gasping for the breath that had been knocked from him, Ill turned worried eyes to the girl who had made mention of his sister. She seemed well enough and was, as far as he could tell, unharmed.
"Who are you?!"

"they call me amber. the demon of chance. and euphoria is my..." What was the word? she had no clue what to call her or what her existence meant to the mage, but something in the pit of her stomache said to help her.

"im looking for the man with power over the darkness. to save euphoria. i cant get past the crystal prison myself." She watched the opponent, slipping the scythe off her back to take a moment of comparison between their weapons before turning back to illya, allowing her reflexes to activate in case of attack.

By the time his foot had gone through the root of his problem's throat Vostal was simmering down to a low boil. Still mourning over his shirt, he didn't say much to the woman he'd noticed eying their short battle like a treacherous leech on the breath of entertainment he'd inflicted. Rather than making a fuss while he eavesdropped on their quote on quote "inconspicuous" conversation, he began to pat himself down for another cigarette. Maybe he should've considered cutting back a bit? The thought surfaced in his mind...
He slammed a mental heel on it and shoved it back down with a twitched brow.
Ah-ha! There is was. Black slid a half smoked, bent tipped drug from his inner pocket now torn open from the attack on his shirt and tucked it between his lips. His lighter was much easier to find since, unlike the cigarettes, there was only one and it generally stuck to the same area of his pants. Lighting up he returned to his usual languid squat and watched them at his barely acceptable distance returning a now dirty Grimm to his shoulder where he supposed his weapon was most comfortable.
"Aww," he droned watching the happy couple in a huff of smoke. "What do you think they're doing?" he pitched the question clearly to thin air.

They were being watched. Not just watched though.
He looked sideways at Vostal and eased himself off of the woman he'd rescued from certain death. Could he hear them? No. Not from so far away. Unsure how long they would be safe, Ill split his attention between keeping an eye on the wicked man observing them and the reckless woman speaking of his sister.
"The prison was made by a grand priest," he answered distractedly, "and that man there." he nodded to his previous attacker.

" Her tone was calm and authoritative, Her eyes resonating the intent behind her words. She wasn't sure why but something about this seemed dire. like the clock was ticking away, and every second that she wasted, every lingering word wasted in semantics, plunged her farther away from her goal.

He glanced away. "..." What was the difference between them? Those who chose to defend her. Those who chose to use her? If in the end the result was her life, was it worth it to make this decision. Lifting his voice at last with a sense of resolve he hadn't had before, Illya stood shaken to his feet and caught Vostal's attention. "That is the man who can break through the shield." He didn't tell her the rest of his thoughts. If he did he feared losing her company and his chance to make his hopes a reality.

Fuck. Her mental dialogue raged as she considered her options once more and taking in the delightfull irony. "the ass hole trying to kill us is..... yeah thats my life. " She dropped her head to her hands, fingertips rotating lightly across the bridge of her nose to alleviate the light throbbing in her temple.

"Oh, hey, look at that I've been spotted suddenly." Vostal slowly plucked his cigarette from his mouth and held it between his knuckles thoughtfully lifting his free hand to wave at the merry couple. What a fierce face. He chuckled and dropped his hand. Too bad the kid wasn't as social as his little mate. Now that he thought about it the girl looked suspicious as all holy hell. If he didn't know better he might have thought she was a Horror. Upon his shoulder Grimm slipped forward. He caught the shaft and dragged it back into place.
"That's not for you," he muttered. Just how long was this Euphie going to be staring at him?
"How do I look?" he called playfully.
"I look good, right?"

He ignored the man's childish calls and looked to his company quietly searching her face for some hint of familiarity. How did she know Euphoria? Was it possible that she too was a Euphoric? No. He couldn't hear the hymn around her...
"He is the only one I know of who is able to slip through the barrier," he told her gently. "I--I've never known why." Why he couldn't. Even though...even though!

I'm her brother.
Had she forgotten him? In her weakened state was it possible that even the one woman he lived to love had erased his memory from her thoughts? Was there even such a reason for her to do such a thing? He frowned and bowed his head watching the tendrils of his platinum hair cascade around his face with the fading sunlight.

If you piss him off your chances will be much slimmer of gaining his friend. Conjuring every ounce of humanity left in her, she parted her lips to allow the honey to flow into his ear, praying to the gods that she could persuade him with her kindest words.

"hey you ass hole.....with the really nice weapon. I was told you were the only one with the strength to free euphoria from her prison, name your price. Any thing i can assist you with, anything that i can offer you to save her life........ And feel free to make your request brief i don't exactly have an abundance of time and i know how you arrogant types like to monologue."

Perfect. calm, clear, precise and to the point. And best of all, She didn't even insult him that much. A smile pierced her gaze as she basked in her own ego, knowing her friends back home would flip if they heard the story of amber's first kind conversation.....well, sort of.

He flicked off the last of his concealed cigarettes and blinked at the woman calling to him. When she'd finally shut her mouth over Illya's cry, he stood and with more haste than he normally expressed began to rush towards the shallowing pools of sunlight that remained in Nomida. As their shoulders brushed he grinned sidelong at the woman.
"Guess that makes you arrogant since you just said more than I do in a week," he chuckled. "Thanks for the head's up...now run."
Asking for no permission Vostal snatched up the Euphoric's thin arm and began to drag him from pool to pool ignoring the girl's request. Key point to persuading someone was finding a way to tell them what they would get from it. Since she'd failed so miserably at an otherwise simple task, Black decided to leave her be without the information of exactly what happened to Nomida when night licked its pathetic landscape.

She was lost, to say the least. dropping her head the mage fought to understand exactly why her kind words were ignored. her tone, her words, even her body language simply screamed please help me. How had he not been swooned by the honey that floated from her lips? damn. Looking up she noticed right away a problem in the landscape. Both the euphoric and the other man were gone..... And not a trace of them remained.

"brilliant amber...... " She looked across the plain, searching the world for their energy signature.
